Abstract

The creation of the Family Health Suport Centers (FHSC) represented an important advance for the Brazilian health system, and an important opportunity for Physical Education. The objective of this study was to determine the profile of users of physical activity programs offe- red by the FHSC in a city in southern Brazil. We conducted interviews with all participants in physical activity programs offered in five Primary health care units (n = 167). In general, participation in physical activity was restricted to women, people over 50 years, people who already have some kind of disease and who live close to where the programs are conducted. The strategies related in context to FHSC to physical activity not to be limited to the creation of practice groups. It is necessary that broader strategies are developed.
