Cyberathletes, cyberculture and digital games: epistemological considerations
Abstract
The present paper has the purpose to discuss the development of information technologies given the historical relevance attributed in Western civilizations to techniques in
general, by considering that the processes involving computer-generated images are linked to the development of new medias and to the construction of social groups in contemporary era. Clear examples are the increase of digital games and the appearance of the “cyberathlete” concept, both building the foundation of new epistemological frontiers to the study of sports and the human body’s movement.
